Frequently asked questions

How does a HELOC rate work?

Most HELOCs are variable: the rate is an index such as the Prime Rate plus a margin, so it moves as rates change. Many lenders offer a lower fixed intro APR for an opening period before the variable rate takes over.

How much can I borrow with a HELOC?

Lenders typically allow a combined loan-to-value of 80-90%, meaning your mortgage balance plus the new line can total up to that share of your home's appraised value.
